Roof lantern installation in New Milton

Rooflight work is weather work. Membranes, primers and sealants all want a dry surface, so a fitting day in New Milton is planned around the forecast rather than pinned to a date regardless of rain. The opening is kept covered whenever it is exposed, and a roof is not left open overnight without a proper temporary seal. That approach applies to every roof lantern we install, from a new opening to a straight swap or a fit-only job. We cover New Milton, the BH25 district and the rest of Hampshire.

Coverage in and around New Milton

Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Christchurch, 5 miles from New Milton, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in BH25, SO41 and SO42. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Bournemouth, around 10 miles out, is treated the same way.

Buying your own, or letting us supply

Your unit or ours, the fitting standard is the same. For supply and fit we choose a roof lantern to suit the roof and price it with the installation. For fit-only we work with what you have, after confirming it arrived undamaged, that it matches the builder's opening, and that the upstand will sit at the height the maker asks for. Report any transit damage to the seller, as the product cover is theirs and the maker's. Our written guarantee applies to the fitting itself.

On the day, we cover

  • Frame assembled on the kerb in the maker's set order
  • Caps, end closures and ridge trims fitted and sealed
  • Glass cleaned and packaging cleared from the roof
  • Heat and glare — We talk through the glass options before you order a large lantern.
  • Lanterns and planning — We check whether your lantern can go in without a planning application.

Fitting your roof lantern, step by step

Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a roof lantern level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes one to two days.

Planning, building control and New Milton

England's rules in short: permitted development usually covers a rooflight on a house roof provided it doesn't stick out more than 0.15 m or rise above the ridge, though a listed building always needs consent and some streets have Article 4 directions. Building regulations apply to new openings, and replacements go through building control; as we are not registered with a competent person scheme, we use a building notice and show the fee on the quote. The energy limit for rooflights in existing homes is 2.2 W/m²K, and the 2026 Approved Document L, in force from 24 March 2027, keeps that figure.

Before you get in touch

What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around BH25 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.

Common questions in New Milton

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?

We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.

Send a few photos and your BH25 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
