Covering GU15 and neighbouring districts
Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Sandhurst, 2 miles from Camberley, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in GU15, GU16 and GU19. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Farnborough, around 3 miles out, is treated the same way.
What we check on a supplied unit
A damaged delivery is a frequent snag on fit-only work. Before the day, unpack a flat rooflight, photograph it, and tell the seller about any cracks or scuffs, because claims are much easier made early. We will also ask for the model or a link, so we can read the maker's instructions and check the builder's opening size and the upstand height it expects. If everything lines up, we fit it. If not, we explain what needs changing first.
Included in the work
- Product paperwork handed over and warranty registration explained
- Fall confirmed so rain runs off the glass rather than sitting on it
- Unit bedded on the specified sealant or tape and screw-fixed
- Solar gain on south-facing roofs — We ask which way the roof faces and how the room is used before suggesting glass.
- Weight of large panes — We check the weight of the unit against how we will get it onto the roof.
A typical installation day
Where a job takes one day, the split is usually structural work first and finishing second. Early on, the fitters cut or prepare the opening, trim where needed and prepare the upstand or flashing. Then a flat rooflight is lifted in, fixed and made weathertight so the roof is sound before anyone moves inside. Plasterboard, trim and filler for the reveal come after. Each evening the work area is swept, and at the end the glass is cleaned and the team talks you through what was done.
Regulations for Camberley properties
Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.
What to send for a quick quote
What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around GU15 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.
Common questions in Camberley
Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?
Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.
Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?
Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.
What is included in the price?
The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.
Send a few photos and your GU15 postcode, and we will put together a written quote for the job.
