Fitting across Uxbridge and nearby
Distance is rarely the deciding factor. A roof in Ruislip, 3 miles from Uxbridge, gets the same survey, the same written quote and the same fitting process as one in UB8, UB10 and UB11. What changes the price is the job itself: size of unit, roof type, access and lifting. Hayes, around 3 miles out, is treated the same way.
Fit-only or supply and fit
There are two ways to do this. Supply and fit means we source a flat rooflight that suits your roof and install it, so one company answers for both the product choice and the fitting. Fit-only means you buy the unit and we install it. With fit-only, the product warranty stays with the maker or seller, and our written guarantee covers the fitting work. Both routes get the same checks on the opening, the upstand and the maker's instructions before anything is fixed.
What we do on the day
- Reveal lined and trimmed inside, with the glass left clean
- Fall confirmed so rain runs off the glass rather than sitting on it
- Lifting gear or extra hands arranged for large and heavy panes
- Weight of large panes — We check the weight of the unit against how we will get it onto the roof.
- Fixed or opening — We ask whether you need ventilation before you settle on a fixed unit.
How a fitting day runs
Fitting days start with a look at the sky. If rain is due, the order of work changes so the roof is never left open to it. A typical day for a flat rooflight runs like this: set up access, protect the room, open up the roof or prepare the existing kerb or frame, check sizes, fix, seal, then finish inside. On jobs that take more than a day, the opening is weather-sealed overnight. The last hour goes on tidying, waste removal and a walk-round with you.
Do you need permission in Uxbridge?
In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.
What to send for a quick quote
Each detail you send takes a question off our list. Photos inside and out show the opening and the ceiling. Rough measurements tell us the unit size. The roof covering tells us how it will be sealed in. Access notes tell us whether a tower or scaffold is needed. A product link, if you have one, lets us check it against the opening. Your postcode, UB8 or nearby, confirms travel.
Common questions in Uxbridge
Do you offer trade rates for builders and roofers?
We carry out subcontract fitting for builders, roofers, extension companies and commercial contractors. Pricing is per job or per schedule of units, agreed in writing before we start. We can work to your programme, fit on your upstand or build our own, and leave the opening ready for the next trade. Send drawings or a unit schedule and we will come back with a trade quote.
Do you make good inside after fitting?
Yes, where the quote includes it. Internal finishing usually means lining the reveal with plasterboard, taping or skimming, and fitting trim where it meets the ceiling. Some people prefer their own plasterer or decorator to finish off, which is fine. The written quote spells out exactly where our work stops, so nobody is left guessing about who does what once the unit is in.
Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?
Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.
Tell us your postcode, UB8 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
