Fit-only rooflight installation in Clydach

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for fit-only rooflight installation in Clydach, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Clydach and properties throughout Swansea & Neath Port Talbot.

Is your address covered?

Our fitters come to you. For Clydach that covers SA6, SA7 and SA8, plus nearby Neath and Swansea. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Which works out better, buying your own or letting us supply? It depends on what you value. Buying your own gives you control of the product and what you pay for it. Letting us supply puts the whole job, unit and fitting, under one written quote. On a customer-supplied unit we still measure it against the opening, look at the upstand, and inspect the condition it arrived in. Warranty on the product sits with whoever sold it, while the fitting carries our own guarantee.

On the day, we cover

  • Roof membrane dressed up the kerb and finished under the drip edge
  • Upstand height, level and fall checked, and squareness confirmed across the diagonals
  • Opening tested where relevant, packaging taken away and paperwork handed back
  • Access and lifting — We check how the unit gets from your drive to the roof.
  • Upstand height above the roof — We measure how far the upstand stands above the finished roof surface, including any ballast or walkway.

A typical installation day

Arrive and agree the plan. Sheet the floor and furniture. Set up the ladder, tower or scaffold. Check the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the unit against the paperwork. Fix and pack a rooflight level. Seal it into the roof. Line the reveal or fit the ceiling trim. Clean the glass, clear the waste, and talk you through it. That is the shape of most fitting days, and for this type of job it usually takes half a day to a day.

Planning, building control and Clydach

Wales sets energy limits of 2.2 W/m²K for rooflights and 1.4 W/m²K for roof windows, and new rooflight openings generally need building regulations approval. Replacement units are controlled fittings; we are not registered with a competent person scheme, so ours are covered by a building notice to the council. Planning permission is needed for rooflights in conservation areas, National Parks, AONBs and World Heritage Sites. We check which applies and include the fee in your quote.

Help us quote accurately

Start with your phone. Take a picture of the roof where the unit goes or already sits, then one from inside looking up. Measure what you can, even roughly. Tell us what the roof is covered with and how a fitter would reach it: ladder, garden access or scaffold. Bought it already? Send the link or spec. Add your full postcode, for example in SA6, and we can price it.

Common questions in Clydach

Can you remove and dispose of the old rooflight?

Yes. Taking out the old unit is part of any replacement job, and it leaves with the rest of the waste unless you ask to keep it. Old domes, glass and frames go through proper waste routes. If removal turns up a rotten kerb or damaged decking, we show you what we have found and agree the repair with you before going any further.

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
