Fit-only rooflight installation in Wombwell

Already bought a rooflight, or still deciding which one to get? Both are fine. For fit-only rooflight installation in Wombwell we either source a suitable unit and install it, or fit the one waiting in your garage. Fit-only jobs are usually priced from your photos and measurements, while supply-and-fit and replacement jobs get a free survey first. Whichever route you take, the opening, the upstand or flashing, and the delivery are checked before anything is fixed down. Properties in S73 and the surrounding districts are covered on the same terms.

Is your address covered?

Wombwell and the districts around it, S73, S74 and S63, all sit inside our working area. So does the ground between Wombwell and Wath upon Dearne (2 miles), and on towards Hoyland (3 miles). When a fitting team is booked, their travel is already in the quoted price, so it does not turn up as a surprise line on the final bill.

What we check on a supplied unit

Which works out better, buying your own or letting us supply? It depends on what you value. Buying your own gives you control of the product and what you pay for it. Letting us supply puts the whole job, unit and fitting, under one written quote. On a customer-supplied unit we still measure it against the opening, look at the upstand, and inspect the condition it arrived in. Warranty on the product sits with whoever sold it, while the fitting carries our own guarantee.

Included in the work

  • Internal reveal trimmed or lined, with the protective film removed at the end
  • Roof membrane dressed up the kerb and finished under the drip edge
  • Opening and upstand measured against the maker's drawing, timber to timber
  • Upstand height above the roof — We measure how far the upstand stands above the finished roof surface, including any ballast or walkway.
  • Delivery damage and missing parts — We ask you to open the delivery and check it as soon as it arrives, not on fitting day.

Fitting your rooflight, step by step

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Regulations for Wombwell properties

Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.

Before you get in touch

For fit-only work, the product details matter most: the link, the spec sheet, or a photo of the label on the box. Alongside that, send pictures of the roof and the ceiling below, approximate opening sizes, the type of roof covering, and how someone would get onto the roof. For supply and fit, the same photos and sizes do the job. Finish with your postcode, such as S73.

Common questions in Wombwell

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.

Tell us your postcode, S73 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
