Covering W6 and neighbouring districts
Fitters travel to the job, so the address is what counts. In Hammersmith that means postcode districts W6, W14 and W12, and the same teams can just as easily take on work in Shepherds Bush, about 1 mile away, or Fulham at roughly 1 mile. Survey and fitting dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is built into the quote rather than added later.
Your rooflights or ours
A damaged delivery is a frequent snag on fit-only work. Before the day, unpack a rooflight, photograph it, and tell the seller about any cracks or scuffs, because claims are much easier made early. We will also ask for the model or a link, so we can read the maker's instructions and check the builder's opening size and the upstand height it expects. If everything lines up, we fit it. If not, we explain what needs changing first.
What we do on the day
- Opening tested where relevant, packaging taken away and paperwork handed back
- Internal reveal trimmed or lined, with the protective film removed at the end
- Check of the delivered unit, glass, fixings pack and instructions before work starts
- Internal versus external size — We check whether your rooflight's quoted size is the hole size or the outer frame size.
- Upstand height above the roof — We measure how far the upstand stands above the finished roof surface, including any ballast or walkway.
Fitting your rooflight, step by step
Morning first: the team arrives, introduces itself and walks through the job with you. Dust sheets go down in the room below and along the route in. Then the opening and upstand, or the flashing on a pitched roof, are checked against the unit's measurements. A rooflight goes in, is fixed to the maker's pattern and sealed into the roof covering. Inside, the reveal is finished as quoted. Before leaving, the team clears debris and talks you through what was done. Most jobs of this type take half a day to a day.
Regulations for Hammersmith properties
Replacing a rooflight in an English home is a controlled fitting: it has to be self-certified by a scheme-registered installer or notified to building control. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so replacements we fit are notified with a building notice, and the new unit has to meet current energy limits. Adding a new one usually means a building regulations application, because joists or rafters are trimmed. On the planning side, most house rooflights are permitted development if they project 0.15 m or less; on a side slope the glass must be obscured and fixed unless the opening part is over 1.7 m above the floor.
Details that speed up your quote
What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around W6 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.
Common questions in Hammersmith
Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?
Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.
Do you cover Hammersmith?
Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Hammersmith and the surrounding districts, including W6. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.
Will my new rooflight leak?
A correctly fitted unit should not. Leaks usually trace back to the detail around the frame: an upstand that is too low, a membrane or flashing that is not dressed properly, sealant applied to a damp surface, or water ponding against the kerb. We fit to the maker's instructions and check each of those points. The fitting carries a written workmanship guarantee, with its terms set out on your quote.
Tell us your postcode, W6 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
