Fit-only rooflight installation in Vale of Leven

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for fit-only rooflight installation in Vale of Leven, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Vale of Leven and properties throughout Glasgow & Dunbartonshire.

Areas around Vale of Leven we cover

Our fitters come to you. For Vale of Leven that covers G82, G83 and G60, plus nearby Dumbarton and Helensburgh. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

Fit-only or supply and fit

Supply and fit tends to suit people who would rather not pick a unit from a catalogue. We look at the roof, the opening and how you use the room, then put a rooflight on the quote that fits all three. Fit-only suits people who already know what they want, or have one on site. We are happy with either. The difference is who stands behind what: on fit-only, the maker or retailer covers the product, and our workmanship guarantee covers the installation.

What the job includes

  • Check of the delivered unit, glass, fixings pack and instructions before work starts
  • Opening and upstand measured against the maker's drawing, timber to timber
  • Opening tested where relevant, packaging taken away and paperwork handed back
  • Warranty conditions on your unit — We read the warranty terms that came with your rooflight before we fit it.
  • Delivery damage and missing parts — We ask you to open the delivery and check it as soon as it arrives, not on fitting day.

A typical installation day

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Planning and building rules in Scotland

In Scotland a new rooflight needs a building warrant before work starts. A like-for-like replacement including the frame is exempt from a warrant but must meet current standards, so the glazing has to reach 1.6 W/m²K or better. For planning, rooflights on houses outside conservation areas can often go ahead under permitted development, but it is worth confirming with the planning authority.

Before you get in touch

Keep it simple. Two or three photos, outside and inside. Approximate sizes. What the roof is made of. Anything awkward about getting up there, such as a conservatory below, a narrow side path or no parking. If you bought the rooflight online, the link or model name. Then your postcode in or around G82. That is enough for a first price.

Common questions in Vale of Leven

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.

Do you cover Vale of Leven?

Yes. Fitters travel to addresses in Vale of Leven and the surrounding districts, including G82. We do not run an office there; the survey and the fitting happen at your property. A few island and remote postcodes are covered by arrangement; if yours is one, we confirm travel and dates before quoting.

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.
