Fit-only rooflight installation in Glossop

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for fit-only rooflight installation in Glossop, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Glossop and properties throughout Derbyshire.

Is your address covered?

Our fitters come to you. For Glossop that covers SK13, SK22 and SK23, plus nearby Stalybridge and Hyde. We do not keep a yard or showroom in the area, and you do not need to visit one. The survey happens at your property or, for fit-only work, from the photos you send. Dates follow fitter availability, which we confirm when you accept the quote.

Already bought your unit?

Which works out better, buying your own or letting us supply? It depends on what you value. Buying your own gives you control of the product and what you pay for it. Letting us supply puts the whole job, unit and fitting, under one written quote. On a customer-supplied unit we still measure it against the opening, look at the upstand, and inspect the condition it arrived in. Warranty on the product sits with whoever sold it, while the fitting carries our own guarantee.

On the day, we cover

  • Opening tested where relevant, packaging taken away and paperwork handed back
  • Unit bedded on the sealant or tape the maker specifies, then screw-fixed
  • Internal reveal trimmed or lined, with the protective film removed at the end
  • Internal versus external size — We check whether your rooflight's quoted size is the hole size or the outer frame size.
  • Warranty conditions on your unit — We read the warranty terms that came with your rooflight before we fit it.

From arrival to clean-up

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Planning, building control and Glossop

Two sets of rules matter in England. Planning: a rooflight on a house is normally permitted development if it projects no more than 0.15 m and stays below the highest part of the roof, but flats, listed buildings and Article 4 areas need checking. Building regulations: new openings need approval for the structure and energy performance, and a replacement is a controlled fitting. We are not registered with a competent person scheme, so we notify replacements to building control with a building notice and put the council's fee on the quote.

What to send for a quick quote

Start with your phone. Take a picture of the roof where the unit goes or already sits, then one from inside looking up. Measure what you can, even roughly. Tell us what the roof is covered with and how a fitter would reach it: ladder, garden access or scaffold. Bought it already? Send the link or spec. Add your full postcode, for example in SK13, and we can price it.

Common questions in Glossop

How long does fitting take?

Fitting a rooflight into an existing, correctly sized opening is often a day's work. New openings take longer, because joists or rafters need trimming, an upstand or flashing has to be built or fitted, and the inside needs finishing. Large units that need lifting gear, and days lost to rain, can stretch things further. Your written quote gives a realistic estimate for your roof.

Do you need scaffolding to fit a rooflight?

Not always. Single-storey roofs can often be reached safely with ladders, a tower or edge protection. Higher roofs, steep pitches and large units usually need scaffold or a mobile platform, and heavy glass may need a crane. We assess access from your photos or at the survey, and any scaffold or lifting cost is shown as its own line on the written quote.

Can you replace an old dome without redoing the whole roof?

Usually, yes. If the existing kerb is sound, level and tall enough, a new unit can often sit on it with a fresh seal to the roof covering. If the kerb is rotten or too low, we rebuild it and patch the covering around it rather than stripping the whole roof. This is checked at the survey and included in the written quote, so you know the full scope first.
