Dome rooflight replacement in Wimbledon

A rooflight is not finished when the roof is watertight. The inside matters too: the reveal or lining around the opening, the plaster, the trim where it meets the ceiling. Some installers leave that for somebody else. When we quote for dome rooflight replacement in Wimbledon, internal finishing is listed so you can see whether it is included or left for your decorator. That way a dome rooflight looks right from the room below as well as from outside. We cover Wimbledon and properties throughout Greater London.

Guide ranges for supply & fit, per dome; building control notice fee extra on homes in England and Wales. Your price is fixed in a written quote after we have seen photos or surveyed. Scaffold, access towers or a crane are priced separately if the job needs them, and building control fees, where a job needs them, are shown as their own line.

Where our fitters travel

Fitters travel to the job, so the address is what counts. In Wimbledon that means postcode districts SW19, SW20 and SW17, and the same teams can just as easily take on work in Wimbledon Park, about 1 mile away, or Morden at roughly 2 miles. Survey and fitting dates are offered according to fitter availability, and travel is built into the quote rather than added later.

Already bought your unit?

If you have bought a dome rooflight yourself, we check four things before fitting. First, the delivery: open it, look for chips, cracks and bent frames, and report any damage to the seller straight away. Second, the size, measured against the builder's opening rather than the external frame. Third, the upstand height above the finished roof. Fourth, the maker's instructions, which set the fixings and sealing. Product warranty claims go to the seller and maker; our guarantee is for how it was fitted.

On the day, we cover

  • New multi-skin dome or glass unit fixed and sealed
  • Membrane checked where it meets the kerb, with small repairs made
  • Old dome unscrewed, lifted off and taken away
  • Upgrading to glass — We check whether the kerb suits a glass unit before recommending one.
  • Fragile dome safety — We treat old domes as fragile at all times.

A typical installation day

On the day, you need to be in at the start and at the end. In between, the fitters get on with it. They will want the room below cleared where possible, a parking spot if you have one, and somewhere to set the unit down safely. After checking the opening and the upstand or flashing, they fix a dome rooflight, seal it and finish the inside. Packaging and any old unit leave with them unless the quote says otherwise.

Regulations for Wimbledon properties

In England, a new rooflight opening generally needs building regulations approval because the roof structure is altered and the glazing must meet energy rules: 2.2 W/m²K for a rooflight in an existing home, or 1.4 W/m²K (or WER Band B) for a roof window. Planning is often not needed on a house: permitted development covers rooflights that stand no more than 0.15 m proud of the roof slope and sit below the highest part of the roof. Flats, listed buildings and areas with an Article 4 direction are different, so we check your address first.

Help us quote accurately

What we cannot see, we have to guess, and guesses make quotes wider. So the more you send, the tighter the price. Useful: shots from the roof or garden, shots from the room underneath, a rough width and length, the roof finish, any access problems, and the product page if you have already ordered. Add the property postcode around SW19 and we will come back with a quote or a survey date.

Common questions in Wimbledon

What is included in the price?

The written quote lists it line by line. Typically that covers fitting labour, fixings, sealants, membrane or flashing materials, any upstand work, internal finishing if agreed, and taking away the waste. For supply and fit, the unit itself is included too. Scaffold, lifting gear and any third-party fees, where needed, are shown separately so you can see what each part of the job costs.

Can you fit a rooflight in winter or when it is raining?

Yes, within limits. Cold is less of a problem than wet, because membranes, primers and sealants need a dry surface to bond. We plan fitting days around the forecast and may move a date if heavy rain is due. If the roof has to be opened up, it is not left overnight without a temporary weather seal, so the room below stays dry while the work is finished.

What if my roof opening is the wrong size for the dome rooflight?

We find out before the fitting day, not on it. If the opening is slightly out, it can usually be adjusted by trimming or by packing out the upstand. If it is a long way off, the choice is between altering the opening and changing the unit. Bear in mind that rooflights are often sold by builder's opening size rather than external size, so check which one your measurement refers to.

Tell us your postcode, SW19 or close by, and what you want fitted. We will reply with the next steps and a quote.
